If you are a butterfly in need of a drink, it turns out that if there’s a turtle near by you can quench your thirst, by sipping on their tears. It all probably sounds a little bit bizarre but when you see it happening it’s magical. It’s known as lachryphagy and is just one of the ways that butterflies can obtain nutrients and moisture to survive.
These photos taken by Ama la Vida TV show the tear drinking taking place and it looks like a staged scene from a Disney movie. It’s no wonder then that the photo won 2014 Wikimedia Picture of the Year.
