10 Photographs of Spectacular Coloured Cloud Formations

These striking cloud formations are incredibly rare, but look up on a sunny day and you might be lucky enough to see one. The problem lies in the fact that the conditions have to be spot on, or  more specifically the sun has to be at an elevation of 58° or greater, there must be cloud containing small plate-shaped ice crystals and even then the sun still has to hit them at the right angle.

But when everything does align a ‘Fire Rainbow’ is born. Although they have nothing to do with fire, they do have a lot in common with rainbows and can often be found in altocumulus, cirrocumulus, lenticular clouds, and cirrus clouds. Take a look at the stunning photos below.
