The Hypnotising Transparent Waves of 19th Century Russian Paintings

Waves and the ocean have long been a fascination for us, from folklore and fisherman’s tales, to stunning photography and artwork we spend a lot of time documenting the majestic presence of ocean waves, their raw power and they mystery of what lies beneath. 19th century painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was passionate about his artworks, something that is clearly visible in his paintings of boats at sea.

The most impressive part of these artworks is the level of detail and realism that Aivazovsky adds to the ocean. Throughout his life he painted some 6000 paintings, almost half of them features boats at sea. More info on the artist can be found here.
