17 Strange Proverbs from Around the World Turned into Funny Literal Illustrations

Most of designer James Chapman‘s work is based around the concept of language, often using his illustrative talents to explain and educate us all on languages around the world and even going as far as demonstrating how different animals would sound in different languages.

For his latest series however Chapman shifts his focus towards some of the world’s most peculiar proverbs and sayings, taking a literal approach to turn them into humourous comics. From the Swedish saying that “the pillow is the best advisor” to the Kenyan proverb that “slippery ground does not recognise a king” Chapman has created brilliant illustrations that also include a translation of each proverbs meaning. You can see more of his work on Facebook, Etsy and Tumblr.
