Artist Spends Decades Sketching Charming Illustrations of South Korea’s Convenience Stores

Although her home country of South Korea has beautiful landscapes and dramatic landmarks artist Me Kyeoung Lee has spent the past 20 years documenting some of its lesser marvelled and appreciated features – its local convenience stores. Using her charming sketches as a way of capturing their interesting and unique facades as well as their colourful plant arrangements.

Local convenience stores may seem like an odd subject matter but given how diverse they can be and the fact that there’s now more than 33,000 of them in South Korea they actually make for the perfect subject in Lee’s acrylic ink sketches. From the welcoming facades to the difference in the gardens outside Lee manages to capture each stores unique characteristics using her often muted palette of colours that ensures no two stores end up looking alike. You can see more of Lee’s work over on her website.
