When you take something as vast and diverse as the ocean and photograph it in black and white the end result is truly spectacular. Without colour the ocean can look so bleak and empty, something which is highlighted in these brilliant photos taken by Indonesian photographer Hengki Koentjoro.
Koentjoro's photos manage to capture the stark contrast between the vast nothingness of the ocean and the light, shape and patterns that its biodiversity injects into it. These are by no means all of Koentjoro's photographs. You can check out more of the photographers work via 500px.
