Photographer Spends 6 Years Capturing the Ever Growing City of Hong Kong

Although he knew little about Hong Kong upon his arrival in 2011 photographer Romain Jacquet-Lagreze soon found himself captivated by its sprawling suburbs, so much so that its high rise buildings and densely populated streets have been the subject of Romain's photos for the past six years.

Searching for a unique way to capture what it is that he found so interesting about Hong Kong Romain soon found himself delving deeper and deeper into its hidden locations, in search of its most obscure locations to get the perfect shot and over time has developed his own style that offers a fresh perspective on Hong Kong by simply looking up.

These photos that showcase what Romain describes as 'vertical sprawl' give a true sense of the cities size and scale as well as how densely populated it is - a product of Hong Kong's scarce building space thanks to its geographical location and the need to build upwards instead of outwards. You can see more of Romain's photos over on Instagram.
