The Hoverboard from ‘Back to the Future’ Is Now a Real Thing

It has been a dream for years, ever since the hoverboard that actor Michael J. Fox rode on as “Marty” McFly in the iconic ‘Back to the Future’ film, we have longed for the real thing and now it is here.

This is the Hendo hoverboard, capable of floating 1 inch above the ground whilst loaded up with a fully grown adult. As you can see from the video the technology is real, and it clearly works. The Hendo hoverboard is currently on Kickstarter and is looking for funding to help it get the project further off the ground – literally. The company is asking for pledges to help them further develop the board, make them and then build places where people can ride them.

The board uses four engines that are shaped like discs which create a special magnetic field that pushes against itself, generating the lift for the board to get off the ground.

Below are some future designs that Hendo are considering. They don’t want to mention any films in case of a lawsuit, but they look remarkably similar to the board seen in Back to the Future.
