Photographer Recreates Portraits of Famous Writers Using Shelter Dogs

Photographer Dan Bannino has created a rather awesome photo series titled “Poetic Dogs” in which he dresses up shelter dogs as famous authors in order to recreate famous portrait photographers with brilliant results.

At first the photographer spent a long time just visiting the dog shelter to get a sense of the dogs personalties so that he could match them up to his favourite authors he told Mashable,  “The moves, the eyes, the way they were and the way they interacted with me had a very important role in choosing who was who, and this totally made me communicate with them on another level.”

Taking these photographs was no easy task either. The creation of costumes and backgrounds was easy enough but it was waiting for the dogs to pull the right facial expressions that took the longest. Bannino intends to create a narrative out of the photographs by posting a short story with each dog. Eventually they will be turned into a book to honour some of our most important writers.
