Artist Ellen Jewett creates beautiful surreal sculptures that fuse the form of animals and plants together. She describes her own work as “natural history surrealist sculpture.”
The sculptures have an almost anatomical and biological look to them, something that is inspired by her background in anthropology, medical illustration and even stop-motion animation. Jewett increasingly strives for a more authentic feel in her sculptures by using only locally sourced materials and leaving slight imperfections on her work such as marks and fingerprints in the hope that they will add to a more authentic feel.
