Tokyo based jewellery designer Shinji Nakaba does something incredible with pearls, transforming them into haunting looking skulls. The designer has been creating jewellery since 1975.
Pearls are not his only choice of material as he also uses everyday items and objects such as aluminium beer cans, plastic bottles and sometimes even rubbish. On every single skull he writes “Vanitas” which is Latin for “vanity,” a reference to the meaninglessness of life on earth and the pursuit of material wealth.
