Cecil the Lion and 160 Endangered Species Projected onto Empire State to Raise Awareness

With the recent outburst over the killing of Cecil the lion, Discovery Channel decided to create a project titled “Projecting Change” to raise awareness on the extinction of animals and to promote their new documentary airing later this year called Racing Extinction.

One side of the Empire State was lit up by 40 projectors for three hours, displaying photos of more than 160 endangered animals including a photo of Cecil the lion. Cecil was shot for sport by an American dentist named Walter Palmer on July 1st, 2015 at the Hwange National Park in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe.

Cecil’s death rightly promoted outrage amongst many, and although Cecil is not the only animal to be killed in such a way, it’s important that these horrible acts are brought to the publics attention.
