Photographer Removes Smartphones from Photos to Show Just How Addicted We’ve Become

American photographer Eric Pickersgill has created this powerful series titled ‘Removed’ that highlights just how addicted we’ve become to our smartphones. The project aims to show our addiction to smartphones, social media and being constantly connected to anyone in the world whilst being disconnected from those closest to us.

Pickersgill was inspired to create the series after witnessing a family in a cafe who were glued to there smartphones, “Not much talking. Father and two daughters have their own phones out. Mom doesn’t have one or chooses to leave it put away. She stares out the window, sad and alone in the company of her closest family. Dad looks up every so often to announce some obscure piece of info he found online.”

By removing the smartphones that we are so used to seeing people hold you quickly realise just how silly people look whilst constantly glaring down at their smartphones. You can see more of Pickersgill’s work on his websiteFacebook and Instagram.
