India Plans to Use 3D Paintings as Speed Breakers to Improve Road Safety

As any good driver will know, when you see a speed breaker you should slow down, but what if that speed breaker appeared to be floating in the road? would you slow down? we know we would and that’s also the thinking of India’s transport minister Nitin Gadkari who hopes that others will too. The proposal is to use 3D paintings that look like speed breakers instead and judging by the photos you see below it’s incredibly effective at catching your eye.

Why not just use your conventional speed breaker you might ask? Gadkari has the answers, “We are trying out 3D paintings used as virtual speed breakers to avoid unnecessary requirements of speed breakers,” he mentioned in a recent tweet.

Many of India’s highways currently use speed breakers but due to careless drivers who speed they cause accidents. In a country that has the highest number of road related deaths in the world it’s hoped that these 3D drawings could help lower that toll and save lives, however the idea runs the risk of actually allowing those familiar with local roads to not slow down at all. Only time will tell if this creative idea proves effective.
