These Six-Pack Rings Feed Sea Creatures Rather Than Harm Them

An idea as good as this is cause for celebration, just make sure that when you go grab a beer it’s one that’s been brewed by Saltwater Brewery, the company behind this awesome idea that will feed sea creatures instead of harming them.

It’s no secret that six-pack rings from beer can packs can cause a lot of harm to marine life and other animals in a variety of ways including strangling them and even getting trapped on their bodies causing severe deformities as they grow up. With this in mind Saltwater Brewery has created a six-pack ring that’s not only 100% biodegradable but can also be used as a food source too!.

Last year of the 6.3 billion galloons of beer that was drunk in American alone 50% was from cans with a vast majority of the plastic waste ending up in the ocean. Inspired by this the company from Florida decided to re-invent the six pack ring, using by products from the beer making process to create an edible version made from barley and wheat. US based brewery Saltwater decided to do something about the plastic waste from beer cans that ends up in the ocean

A 100% biodegradable and edible six-pack ring!

Plastic waste from beer cans is a huge issue, in 2015 Americans drank 6.3 billion gallons of beer, 50% of that was from cans

Most of the plastic rings end up in the water where they cause harm to marine life and birds

Injuries like this can happen with the traditional six-pack ring

And although the rings are expensive to produce, it’s hoped that people will happily pay more if it means saving marine life

The Saltwater Brewery also believes that if more breweries adopt the same idea the cost of manufacturing the biodegradable rings will go down

So that sights like this will become less common and eventually a thing of the past

You can learn more about the creation in this video.
