Tumblr Account Takes Cartoon Characters and ‘Normalises’ Them

There’s no getting away from the fact that in the cartoon world that animators create everything is way better. From impossible physics to idyllic scenery and of course the stories that almost always end well everything is better, including the adorable and loveable looking characters with their exaggerated child-like features, but what if they were made to look a little more realistic?

The look has become something of an industry standard in recent years prompting Illustrator Roosa Karlsson aka TheNamelessDoll, to name it the “baby face,” thanks to the size of the characters eyes in proportion to their heads and the rest of their body.

In order to highlight how this look has been shaping recent CGI movies Karlsson decided to start a Photoshop series in which she reimagines the animated characters to have more realistic proportions and now people can’t decided which one they like best.

Although the changes are often subtle they have a huge impact on the film. The cartoon world can keep it’s unrealistic physics and stories that always pan out well, but perhaps this is one change for the better.
