Considering that much of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand we can’t really think of a more suited guide than Gandalf himself who’s got more than his fair share of experience making his way around Middle Earth.
This is the exact thinking behind photographer Akhil Suhas’s 6-month trip around New Zealand in which he is dressing up as Gandalf a photographing some of the most beautiful locations and landscapes that the country has to offer. Using the #GandalfTheGuide Suhas has been documenting his 9,000-mile adventure and sharing his Gandalf themed landscape photos to his thousands of followers on Instagram.
At first the photographer tried some self-portrait style shots using a tripod and a timer however after they didn’t quite go to plan he found that if he asked nicely enough strangers who were on the trip with him were more than happy enough to stand in so he could get the perfect shot.
