Bioluminescent Plankton Turn Tasmania’s Coastline into an Otherworldly Spectacle

Tasmania’s northern-coastline has recently been overrun with bioluminescent organisms scientifically known as Noctiluca scintillans and more commonly referred to as Sea Sparkles that turn the sea into an otherworldly hue of blues when the sun goes down and photographers can’t get enough of it.

People have been sharing photographs of the incredible spectacle over on Instagram and although beautiful, scientists have hinted that these unusual sights along Tasmania’s coast are a sign of climate change. Regardless, there’s no denying that the Sea Sparkles put on one truly spectacular light display.
