As AI continues to get smarter the list of applications and real world scenarios in which it can be implemented continues to grow but as a recent mishap by online retailer Amazon shows, it still has a way to go and at the very least it shouldn’t be left unsupervised for long.
My Handy Design is a bot that’s programmed to fetch frequently searched images and turn them into iPhone 6 cases on Amazon’s ‘phone accessories’ section and for the most part it was working well until it suddenly went rogue, turning just about every image imaginable into a phone case, whether it was a photo of a galvanised wheelbarrow or cocaine.
People naturally caught onto the AI’s antics and had a field day in the review sections and whilst most have now been flagged for adult content we can’t help but wonder if My Handy Design was onto something.
