One of the reasons people love festivals so much is that everyone’s there for the same reason, to have a good time, so whilst attending this year’s Roskilde Festival in Denmark photographer Johanna Siring took advantage of the free-spirited vibe at the music festival and made, turning it into an interesting series of before and after portrait photos of people before and after kissing them.
The photographer approach random subjects and asked if she could first take their photo and then explain what her series was about before asking for a consensual kiss. She then photographed her subjects afterwards and the difference is remarkable. Her subjects suddenly become so much more relaxed.
Kissing can release a surged of dopamine and oxytocin to be released by the body Johanna explained to i-D magazine. Acting as an instant stress reliever her subjects immediately let their guard down and become themselves making her side-by-side comparisons fascinating. The series is titled “Kiss of a Stranger,” and aims to explore how easily we can connect with new people.
