NASA Releases Thousands of Photos From the Apollo Moon Missions

As if carrying out experiments, piloting spacecraft and going where no human had ever gone before wasn’t enough, astronauts on the Apollo space program were also required to take photos of just about every moment using a modified Hasselblad camera.

It wasn’t until a week ago that NASA decided to upload these photos, all 8,400 of them to Flickr. The photos span from Apollo 7, the first ever manned test flight, right through to Apollo 17, the finally lunar mission which happened in 1972.

Whilst we’re used to seeing more vibrant photos of space these photos highlight a different, more mundane side to space travel. This is only a handful of photos. There are thousands more to see on Flickr.
