Whilst the world has speculated for thousands of year over what extraterrestrial life might look like, there are few creatures that you can find on earth that look this alien.
This strange looking creature was found by a team from the Nautilus Live expedition who were using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) when they happened to come across one of the most unusual looking lifeforms anyone has ever seen, this rare purple siphonophore scouring along the ocean floor. Even the most experienced sea explorers could hardly believe what they were seeing.
Believe it or not, what you are seeing is not a single jellyfish-like animal, it is actually a roving colony which is made up of thousands of individual organisms that are called zooids.
Deep Sea News writer R.R. Helm also commented on the animals colour, calling it a “shocking shade”, and stating that this footage really stands out:
“To me, the best part of science is stuff like this: seeing something that completely takes my breath away. Even after studying animals like this for the last five years, this video has me in awe. The animal captured in this footage, simply put, is stunning.”
