Hyper Realistic Painted Portraits by Alyssa Monks

At first glance these portraits appear to be well shot and framed photographs, but they are infact stunning hyper realistic paintings by New Jersey-based artists Alyssa Monks. Monks said “Using filters such as glass, vinyl, water, and steam, I distort the body in shallow painted spaces,“ regarding her painting technique.

“When I began painting the human body, I was obsessed with it and needed to create as much realism as possible. I chased realism until it began to unravel and deconstruct itself,” the award winning artist stated, “I am exploring the possibility and potential where representational painting and abstraction meet – if both can coexist in the same moment.”

The realism that she once chased so hard to achieve is now evident in these stunning works of art.
