High Flying CEO Quits after Daughter Writes Him a List of 22 Important Events He Missed

The high flying CEO of an investment fund worth $2 trillion quit his job after reading the list that his 10-year-old daughter wrote to him. The list highlighted 22 important milestones in his daughters life so far that he had missed because had been busy working.

The californian based businessman Mohamed El-Erian left many people in the industry stunned after his resignation as the chief executive of PIMCO in January 2014.

It is reported that Mr El-Erian made $100 million in 2011, however no amount of money can replace the memories made and shared with his daughter and wife. He used to get up early at 4:30am to get to work.

The wake up call came when his daughter presented him with a piece of paper documenting important events and activities that he had missed such as her first day at school, her first soccer match and parent-teacher meetings.

“I felt awful and got defensive: I had a good excuse for each missed event! Travel, important meetings, an urgent phone call, sudden to-do.

“But it dawned on me that I was missing an infinitely more important point … I was not making nearly enough time for her.”

Mr El-Erian has now taken a part time role in another job which allows him to have more free time with his family.  This story is a reminder of what really matters in life.

We appreciate that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to quit their jobs to spend time with family, however we are glad that he was able to make a change before it was too late in life.
