When you first look at these images you probably think they are fantastic works of abstract art but they are actually breathtaking images of earth captured by the Landsat 7 Satellite.
The satellite which was launched in 1999 is part of an ongoing project to collect images of earth from space and as you can see by the photographs below it is doing a pretty good job so far. The images that Landsat 7 captures are used for a variety of purposes including scientific research and in school to educate children.
Some of the varying colours you see in this photographs are due to a combination of visible and infrared imaging.
