UK based artist Ptolemy Elrington has been creating animal sculptures from discarded hubcaps for over twelve years, so as you can imagine what he creates is truly incredible. Hubcaps are often left discarded because they come off of cars fairly easily and they are relatively cheap to replace ensuring that Elrington always has plenty of materials to work with.
Aside from plastic hubcaps the artist also uses old scraps of metal in order to form the structure of his sculptures. The artist told the Daily Mail "'I like to work with reclaimed materials to show that what is one person's junk is another man's treasure."
He also remarks that the biggest challenge behind creating these animal sculptures is working to scale. Making them too small means you can hardly identify the materials they are made from and making them too big just makes them look like a pile of hubcaps.
