This Bride Was Stood up by Her Fiancé so She Celebrated in the Best Way Imaginable

There were just 5 days to go before the big day when Shelby Swink was left by her Fiancé and partner of three years. She decided that rather than have a pity party she would find an even better way to cope – by trashing her own wedding dress in a photoshoot on her wedding day.

It wasn’t just Shelby who destroyed her own dress, her family and friends also got involved too. You would think that the day would have been a somber occasion but they turned into a fun and exciting day that they can now look back on in these brilliant photographs.

Shelby said on Offbeatbride“I can’t even describe how liberating and cathartic the experience was for me, the moment the first bit of paint hit my dress I was free.”

Shelby Swink met her husband to be in college back in 2011. They were due to get married November 1st 2014.

One week before the wedding her Fiancé told her he no longer loves her and cancelled the wedding.

“Nov. 1 was supposed to be a fun and happy day surrounded by friends and family who loved me. I decided that I would not let my ex-fiancé’s mistake of letting me go take that away from me,” she told Offbeatbride.

The wedding shoot wasn’t cancelled though. Rather than be sad she decided to celebrate. The wedding photographer suggested a ‘trash the dress’ theme.

Shelby said that as soon as the first splash of paint hit her dress she immediately felt liberated and free.

“My bridesmaids supported the idea 100% and even joined me in their own dresses”

Shelby’s mum paid for the dress so she was unsure on how she would react.

But luckily Shelby has awesome parents – “But both of them were 100% supportive and wanted to be there for me.”

She’s been left with a rather unusual looking wedding dress. It’s currently on display atThe Barefoot Bride in Memphis. Every time someone buys a dress from there some of the money will go to a non profit organisation called Be Free Revolution.

We hope that Shelby finds the love and happiness that she deserves.
