The Oldest Man in Australia Knits Tiny Sweaters for Penguins

109-year-old Australian Alfred Date has been knitting since the 1930’s and his latest creations might just be his best yet. Back in 2013 Victoria’s Phillip Island Penguin Foundation asked for volunteers to make little knitted sweaters for penguins and Alfie gladly offered his help.

With 80 years experience in knitting he’s probably the best person for the job. Alfie is father to 7 and a grandparent to 20 and has always stayed active, even playing golf into his 90’s. When asked his secret to his longevity he replied “Waking up every morning,” so he’s also quite the comedian.
