Scan Reveals a 1000-Year-Old Mummified Monk inside a Buddha Statue

It was thought to be just a traditional statue of Buddha from the 11th or 12th century but it’s been discovered recently that it is actually something far more incredible. A CT scan that was carried out by Netherlands-based Drents Museum has shown that inside the sculpture of Buddha is the mummified remains of a Buddhist master known as Liuquan.

The Liuquan mummy is now on display at the Hungarian Natural History Museum throughout may 2015. Apparently some Buddhists believe that a mummified monk is not dead, just in a more advanced state of meditation.
