Photographer Christian richter, based in Jeßnitz, Germany, has been fascinated with abandoned buildings since early childhood, a fascination that only grew after he purchased his first camera. Since then he's been photographing abandoned buildings around Europe, focusing on the abstract architectural features such as spiral staircases and the unusual items left behind.

The photos offer us a look at the past, whilst serving as a powerful reminder that nothing lasts forever - even the buildings that surround us eventually crumble. You can see more of Richter's work on Facebook and Instagram.
