The Heartbreaking Moment a Gorilla Orphan Who’s Mother Has Just Been Killed Gets Comforted

These photos capture the devastating moment a gorilla orphan gets comforted by a park ranger after its mother was killed by poachers. The ranger, Patrick Karabaranga. works at the Virunga National Park located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and shares a very special bond with the animals as can be seen in the photos below.

The Virunga National Park makes up around a quarter of the world’s mountain gorilla population but sadly the area has massive problems with illegal poaching which often leads to younger gorillas being made orphans. Even more tragic is that this gorilla is not the first at the sanctuary to be made an orphan through illegal poaching. For more information on the park visit here.
