To This Day the Mystery of Poland’s “Crooked Forest” Remains Unexplained

Located near to Nowe Czarnowo, West Pomerania, Poland, there is a pine grove that’s known as the “Crooked Forest,” and how it’s formed is a complete mystery. In what must be one of the most bizarre forests on earth, 400 trees are bent at 90 degrees near their base, giving them a wide arc as they continue to grow upwards. Even stranger however is the fact that all of the trees are bent in the same direction, pointing towards the North, yet to this day their is still no clear answer as to why.

The trees are thought to have been planted in the 1930’s and so far the most plausible explanation is that there shape is caused by human intervention although their motive or intentions remain unknown. Other theories are less plausible, suggesting that the energy fields and even witchcraft are the cause of this unusual spectacle. Check it out in these photos taken by photographer Kilian Schönberger.
