When it comes to spring there’s nowhere else in the world quite like Japan. Thanks to it’s large numbers of blossom trees each year spring becomes a magical season of falling petals, so much so that cherry blossom is considered Japan’s national flower.
The Japanese take the blossoms arrival very seriously and even have a forest dedicated to the tree. They also track it’s arrival as it makes its way northwards through the country in a process they refer to as “sakura zensen”. With this in mind National Geographic recently asked people to submit their best photos of the beautiful blossom. Here are 15 of the best!
