Artist Transforms Old Books Into Snowcapped Mountains and Striking Landscapes

Artist Guy Laramée, who we’ve previously featured before, continues to create beautiful detailed sculptures inspired by the topography and formation of caverns, valleys and mountains using old and unwanted books. Excavating the books Laramée carves out mountainous landscapes and hills using a sandblasting process that makes the sheets of paper appear more like layers of sediment in the earths crust than they do actual books.

Despite already being fascinating to look at in their own right Laramée’s pieces have a concept to them, the erosion of cultures. This concept has actually driven his artwork for the past two decades as he attempts to comment on how increasing knowledge can actually cause an erosion of information as the digital world overtakes an older one, items like books begin to erode away into mountains.
