Portugal Is Home to One of the Most Amazing Winding Pathways in the World

Intertwined into the banks of the Paiva River in Arouca, Portugal, you’ll find one of the most amazing winding paths in the world, the Paiva Walkways which offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape and scenery. At 8-Km (around 5 miles) in length the walkway allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy all that Paiva river has to offer, from areas covered in flora and fauna to cascading waterfalls.

On a recent visit to the walkways photographer Nelson Garrido captured these dramatic aerial shots looking down at the narrow wooden bridges as they scale the landscape topography.

The walkways were created by Arouca Municipality in partnership with the engineering firm Trimétrica and were designed to give visitors amazing panoramic views and a “journey through biology, geology and archeology that will remain in the heart, soul, and in mind of any nature lover.” They certainly seemed to have achieved that goal. You can find out more here.
