100-Year-Old Argentinian Theatre Gets Transformed into Beautiful Bookstore

Located in Barrio Norte, Buenos Aires, there’s a bookshop called El Ateneo Grand Splendid, but that’s not always been the case. For nearly a hundred years the building was known as Grand Splendid Theatre, a beautiful building with stunning architecture that still remains today, however in 2000 it was converted into a bookstore that now attracts more than a million people each year.

When looking at the theatre it’s not hard to see why it’s capable of drawing in such large crowds. Originally designed by architects Peró and Torres Armengol and then later turned into the bookshop it is today by architect Fernando Manzone, much of the original features including the stage, balconies and other interior features remain. It’s quite easy to see why some call this the world’s most beautiful bookshop.
