NASA’s Latest Photos Reveal Mars’ Otherworldly Surface

Mars is known as the Red Planet in our solar system but according to these stunning shots recently released by NASA it’s surface is far from the red baron landscape that we think it is, it’s actually incredibly colourful.

Taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) which has been busy photographing the planet since it was launched into space in 2005 these images show that Mars’ surface is actually a hue of deep purples, blues and intricate patterns. The MRO has sent back thousands of photos of Mars since it began orbiting the planet however it’s most recent batch are the clearest yet, made possible by a number of factors including the suns position in relation to mars.

In total the MRO snapped 1,035 images with incredible clarity and below we’ve posted some of the very best. Valleys, mountainous landscapes, dunes and more these are just incredible. You can see more here.
