Artist Ships Glass Boxes Inside FedEx Packaging to Produce Smashes Sculptures

Whilst most artists send their artworks to galleries and protect them as best as they can, as part of a fascinating art series that spans from 2005 to 2014 La-based artist Walead Beshty shipped boxes of glass packed tightly into FedEx packaging that were designed to break under “normal handling ” in order to obtain a ‘”fingerprint” of sorts that documents the packages journey.

The glass boxes were then named after the date, tracking number, and size of the box being shipped and after being sent proudly display the shatters and cracks acquired on their journey. You can hear Walead further explain the project in this video, however if there’s anything to be learned here it’s that this really isn’t the way to send glass objects regardless of the courier.
