Bright Blue Light Beams in the Netherlands Replicate the Aurora Borealis

This amazing artificial light display created by artist Daan Roosegaarde has been designed to mimic the aurora borealis. The foggy skies above a dike in Westervoot, Netherlands, were temporarily turned into a light display similar to the Northern Lights by using powerful, blue LED lights.

The light display was created to raise awareness for the complex system of waterworks that protect the Netherlands as much of the country is below sea level, making it highly dependant on the water management systems being well maintained and working. The result of the collaboration between Roosegaarde and the national water management company is a stunning visual display that will grab attention and help to raise awareness.
