What San Francisco-based artist Rebecca Szeto does with old paintbrushes is truly incredible. When an old paintbrush has set hard and no longer works a lot of people will throw them out, but rather than chuck them in the bin Szeto uses them as a canvas to turn them into sculptures of renaissance ladies, taking full advantage of their worn and tatty appearance.
In her artist statement Szeto says “These works play with notions of re-forming beauty and value,” she also says “I use humble, end-of-life, mass-produced materials inspired by my experience as a faux finisher.”
