Artist Turns Madrid’s Crosswalks into Colourful Works of Art

Although pedestrian crossing designs can vary from place to place generally speaking they’re incredibly boring and unimaginative which is why the work of Bulgarian artist Christo Guelov is so amazing as after he’s finished with a crosswalk they’re far from boring.

Normally stretches of grey tarmac with white lines the artist is transforming these dull crossings into colourful works of art in his home city of Madrid as part of a project he calls Funnycross. Using geometric shapes and designs combined with vibrant colours the series transforms the boring zebra crossings into works of art the interact and become part of the urban landscape. It’s also hoped that the vibrant designs will improve safety for pedestrians and motorists by making the crossings more visible.
