This Stunning Mirrored Home Reflects the Californian Landscape That Surrounds It

If you’re ever unfortunate enough to find yourself dehydrated and lost in California’s Coachella valley and stumble across a small suburban ranch-style home you’ll be forgiven for thinking that it’s just a figment of your imagination, a mirage if you like, fitting considering that’s the projects title.

Titled Mirage the home which is perched between the San Jacinto mountains and Coachella valley is surrounded by mirrors on its exterior which reflect the mountainous landscape that surrounds it, almost making it vanish when viewed from the right vantage point. The house was designed by American artist and filmmaker Doug Aitken and was inspired by the work of a small group of artists in the 1930’s who create the first ever ranch style homes, however Mirage is a little different. Devoid of windows, doors and any other striking external features the mirrored exterior shifts our focus purely to the landscape that surrounds it.

and created for Desert X, an outdoor art exhibition that also features the work of 15 others artists which will be open until April 30, 2017. More info on the exhibition can be found here.
