Here’s a Look at Atari’s First Console in More Than 20 Years

Atari

Some 20 years after they released their last video game console Atari has made a surprise announcement that it’s got a new gaming console in the works and it’s got gamers everywhere excited for it’s release. Atari is calling the console the Ataribox and has hinted that although its design appears to echo that of its predecessor inside will be “modern internal specs” capable of keeping up with current gaming content.

The company which first made the famous game Pong some 40 years ago is still a little sketchy on the final specs of the console and for good reason – they’ve stated that their not intentionally teasing anyone who’s desperate to find out more, they simply want to get it right the first time, using the Atari community for feedback as they slowly bring the Ataribox to life.

What we do have at the moment however is various shots of the exterior of the console which will come in two variants, a red and black version with a black glass panel at its front and a console that’s finished in a vintage wood pattern, a nostalgic throwback to Atari’s first ever console, the Atari 2600. From these shots it’s clear that the Ataribox will have four USB ports, HDMI and Ethernet ports as well as an SD card slot – perhaps a modern replacement for the classic cartridge games.

The console will be available in a nostalgic wooden finish…
