Pablo Escobar’s Former Mansion in Tulum Is Now a Five Star Resort

What do you do when you’ve got more money than you can spend? sadly it’s not something that all of us have or ever will worry about but when you’re one of the world’s biggest drug lords it can become a very real problem and the answer? buy more real estate.

That’s exactly what Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar did during his rise to becoming one of the richest men in the world and this mansion in Tulum was just one of many. After his death in 1993 the mansion like many other properties he owned remained untouched and this mansion in Tulum was certainly no exception.

Remaining untouched until 2003 it wasn’t until 2012 that New York art dealer Lio Malca set about restoring the mansion to its former glory, converting it into a 24 room boutique hotel that’s filled with fancy art and furniture. To stay at the hotel prices start at around $500 per night, small change to the once infamous Escobar although relatively pricey for the rest of us – although we’re sure it’s worth it.
