The small Icelandic fishing town of Ísafjörður has taken an interesting step towards slowing down speeding drivers and protecting pedestrians with a new attention grabbing optical illusion that just so happens to be a crossing – a floating one that is!
It’s hoped that the cleverly painted crossing that appears to be floating in the road will grab the attention of drivers and slow down should there be someone crossing the road at the time.
The Icelandic environmental commissioner Ralf Trylla asked to install the crossing after seeing a similar project in New Delhi, India and commissioned street painting company Vegmálun GÍH to help with its design.
