This Artist Is Covering Billboards With Photos of the Landscapes They Obstruct

As part of the Desert X outdoor art festival that Coachella Valley is currently preparing for visual artist Jennifer Bolande has taken on a clever art project that forces us to question our relationship with the great outdoors and the way in which we interact with adverts by replacing huge billboard adverts with photographs of the landscapes that they obstruct.

The project is titled Visible Distance / Second Sight, and features a series of billboards that used to draw passers by attention for their eye-catching adverts but now appear to fade into their surroundings. The Desert X project aims to encourage people to reconnect with the environment, something that Bolande’s work forces us to do. More info on the project can be found here.
