Rather than create art with a paintbrush and a blank canvas U.S. artist Shannon Holt chooses to paint the human body, transforming its shape into the form of majestic animals.
When asked why she uses humans as her canvas the artist told Daytone Beach News-Journal “You hear a song once live — you have that one beautiful experience and then you have the remembrance of it with a recording,” and that experience is similar to her art “Body painting is the same. It’s probably the closest art form to music there is.“
Holt is already a well accomplished artist who has painted on many different surfaces including metal, wood and more traditionally canvas and paper. Her search for a new type of surface lead her to start painting on people and the results are incredible.
